Background
Since the first grade, when my teacher complimented my short story and used it as an example for another student (who went on to be my high school Valedictorian), I have dreamed of being a writer. In an effort to make my dreams a reality, I majored in Media with a specialization in Screenwriting at Indiana University Bloomington. During a six week course in December 2020 with Angelo Pizzo and Jo Throckmorton, I received the opportunity to direct a short film I had written. The film wrapped in May of 2021. The following summer I completed an internship with Aggregate Films in Los Angeles as a coverage intern. And while screenwriting and prose were still a priority and passion, I found myself intimidated by the workplace standards of Hollywood. I turned to another industry that revered storytelling–librarianship. I was accepted into the 4+1 program, in which I began library science courses before completing my undergrad. Throughout my time at Indiana University, I had several student positions including a Teaching Assistant in Dr. Susan Kelly’s Writers Room, a Research Assistant in the Learning Commons, Makerspace Assistant, Media Services Desk Associate, and a Moving Image Archive Film Archivist Intern. All of these positions prepared me for my role of Public Services Librarian at the Indianapolis Public Library, which I’ve held since 2024. And while librarianship is still a field dear to me, writing will always be my first love. I am currently based in central Indiana with my fiancé, Tyler (a PICU nurse), and our naughty tabby cat, Knox.
Writer
I enjoy exploring all genres, but feel my strengths are particularly suited for dramas and romance. I have experience writing short films, features, television series, narrative manuscripts, and scholarly papers. I am currently working on an episodic comedy, a feature, and a novel.
Filmmaker
Seeing my words come to life on the screen is one of the greatest joys I’ve ever experienced. Whether it is “Quadreynnial,” my family documentary series, or the silly shorts I made with classmates in undergrad, every project I’ve worked on is a part of me visually represented.
Librarian
Being a librarian and a writer has allowed me to witness the entire life cycle of a story. From writing the first words on the page to weeding highly circulated materials, I have seen it all. With a diverse background, I have experience in public service, archiving, and academic librarianship.
Career Goals
While it often feels like librarianship and media are two separate industries, I would love a career that marries them both, particularly similar to my work in Media Services or with the Moving Image Archive. I have great ambitions, like winning the Oscar for Best Original Screeplay and writing someone’s favorite movie and/or book, and I am seeking a position that allows me the freedom to pursue these goals. I am seeking a position/career that allows me to have a healthy work life balance, be creative, work from home, and opportunities for advancement.
